Perched at an altitude of 1352 meters above sea level, Pachmarhi is one of India’s most densely forested hill stations. Situated in the heart of Madhya Pradesh, in the Satpura Range, it’s famously known as “Satpura ki Rani” (Queen of the Satpuras). Being part of the Satpura Tiger Reserve since 2000, Pachmarhi is home to rare species of flora and fauna. Its scenic beauty, with stunning waterfalls and breathtaking views, makes it a paradise for bird and butterfly watchers.
The name Pachmarhi originates from the Hindi words “Panch” (five) and “Marhi” (caves), referring to the Pandav Caves in Pachmarhi. According to legend, these caves were built by the five Pandava brothers during their 13 years of exile. Numerous other caves around Pachmarhi hold ancient stories and rock paintings, some of which are as old as 10,000 years.
