If the mountains of Uttarakhand call out to you, the Kumaon region answers that call like no other. This drive shall take you through some of the most beautiful corners of Kumaon — from the wild jungles of Ramnagar to the panoramic ridges of Kausani, the serene heights of Chaukori, the orchard-covered slopes of Mukteshwar and finally the charming hill station of Nainital.

Ranikhet is a place of legends. Once upon a time, Queen Padmini of Kumaun was in love with this tiny hill paradise. King Sudhardev had to oblige her by building a palace here and naming this place ‘Ranikhet’, the queen’s field. There is no trace of this palace now but the soothing surroundings and weather conditions makes Ranikhet a suitable stop for lunch break on our journey to Kausani.

Mukteshwar

Surrounded by oak forests, fruit orchards, and panoramic Himalayan peaks, Mukteshwar is one of the most peaceful hill stations located not too far away from Nainital. It gets its name from a 350 year old Lord Shiva temple. This region of Kumaon holds a very special place in history — it was here that the legendary hunter and naturalist Jim Corbett roamed the forests, tracking the man-eating tigers and leopards that had terrorised the hill villages around Mukteshwar for years. His deep love for these forests eventually transformed him into one of India’s greatest conservationists, and walking through the same forests today you can feel why this land captured his heart so completely.
